EAU Guidelines Recommendations on robot-assisted surgery

There is no high quality data for new technologies such as robot-assisted radical prostatectomy that show its superiority over conventional procedures, according to the EAU Guidelines Office plenary presentation at the 26th Annual EAU Congress in Vienna. Austria.

“We see how much attention there is on new technologies…but the level of evidence (for these techniques) is only between 3 and 4,” said Prof. Axel Merseburger during the plenary presentation.

Merseburger said that compared with more widely-accepted or conventional laparoscopic procedures, robot-assisted surgeries for the kidney and the prostate have some advantages, but whether these benefits are clinically relevant remain unanswered.
